File compression
So you have some files you'd like to submit and now you need to cram them all into one compressed file. This is actually much easier than it sounds. With a few minutes of reading and the help of some free software, you'll have all you need to prepare your submission. So let's get started.
Why are we making you do this?
There are two reasons. First of all, compressed files take up less space than uncompressed files. The whole is less than the sum of its parts, which, in this case, is a good thing. Space = money = time = happiness. Yours and ours. Secondly, having only one file assigned to each submission is much easier than trying to keep track of three or seven. Especially, when the files are not allowed to contain any identifying information. Think of file compression as if you were packing a suitcase. Would you rather carry around seven outfits or stuff them all into one bag?
So how do you do it?
First thing you'll need is file compression software. WinRAR is a great utility with a free trial period that lets you use the software for forty days with no financial obligation. They also have a Mac version (RAR 3.71 for Mac OS X). JustZIPit is entirely free, but requires a little more work to use. Pick one and follow the directions below.
